Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Do I have to be a member to go on a CHAOS trip?
A. No. We do ask that you pitch in $2-$3 for gas if you're in a carpool.

Q. What is the age range of people in CHAOS?
A. Members and guests range in age from 20-something to 60-something with the average being 30-something.

Q. Is this a singles group?
A. No. We cover every combination of single and marital status. We've had 3 marriages of people that met through CHAOS -- that we know of.

Q. Can I bring my kids on a hiking trip?
A. Please contact the trip leader listed for the event. We have several trips that are appropriate for kids if they have had prior experience covering the mileage listed for the trip. Keep in mind that this is an adult group moving at an adult pace.

Q. Is CHAOS a hardcore hiking group (i.e., highly fit, fast paced and competitive)?
A. No. CHAOS is a down-to-earth group of people who enjoy the outdoors. We have our trail-blazers and our bring-up- the-rear hikers and the full gamut inbetween. Depending on the pace of the hiking group, the trail conditions, and other factors, we have several stops for water breaks and waiting for people to catch up at trail intersections. We almost always stop on the trail for lunch and to take in views. If you have health concerns, you should check with your physician before participating in one of our trips.
